The school and the writing looks social and historical strict links, which have documentary evidence in centralized societies, with high levels of institutional differentiation and intensive urbanization: in other words, where strong was the cultural homologation necessity. Whenever turn up the school model which we know as <bureaucratic>, the union with the writing come on like a natural symbiosis: the school is the writing institution as the writing is the school technology. This connection originate from the same function of substitution: as the school separate the students from the direct experience, creating an alternative context, which is an authentic laboratory of humanity and wich produce a general culture, trascending local particularisms, so the writing consist in a artifact fit to communicate in indirect ways and to promote ‘over-local’ solidarities. The article ends showing that the function of substitution make the writing a skilful teaching medium.
