Interprofession and typical products:the case of Parmigiano Reggiano cheese

Abstract In the modern agri-food sector the need to manage quality and to improve market efficiency has generated new forms of governance along the food chain. For specialty products, interprofessional bodies are considered one of the most in¬teresting institutions able to link the production phase to the commercialisation phase, according to the more general objective to generate a more efficient contract-based relationship between the companies operating in the various phases of the supply chain. In this framework, this work analyses the specific case of the Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese supply chain in relation to the role that an interprofessional body could play and the possibility that it could be established in order to support and increase the action of the protection consortium, or to take over some of its functions. Key words: interprofession, hybrid forms of organisation, typical products JEL classification: P41, P42, QI3 Organismi interprofessionali e prodotti tipici: il caso del Parmigiano-Reggiano Sommario Nel moderno settore agroalimentare la necessità di gestire la qualità e migliorare l'efficienza del mercato ha generato nuove forme di governance delle filiere agroalimentari. Per i prodotti tipici, gli organismi interprofessionali sono considerati una delle istituzioni più interessanti in grado di collegare la fase di produzione alla fase di commercializzazione, perseguendo l'obiettivo più generale di rendere le filiere più efficienti. In questo quadro, il presente lavoro analizza il caso della filiera del formaggio Parmigiano-Reggiano in relazione al ruolo che un organismo interprofessionale potrebbe svolgere e la possibilità che possa essere istituito al fine di sostenere e incrementare l'azione del Consorzio di tutela, o di assumere alcune delle sue funzioni.
