The topic of this paper deals with the effect of an highway embankment on water levels during a flood occurred in 1977 in Piemonte. After a brief review of international works, simulations of the flooding with and without the embankment in place were carried out with a mathematical model. By comparison of the results of the two simulations the influence of the structure on water levels was evaluated.
