HHV-6 isolated are divide into two variants. Recently evidences supported a different distribution of variant A (frequent detected in patients HIV-infected or with lymphomas) vs variant B (associated to exanthema subitum). Here we report the higher frequency of HHV-6 variant A in Kaposi’s sarcoma biopsies. The occurrence of endemic infection with variant A in Africa and a possible interaction between HHV-6 and other infectious agent in the pathogenesis of Kasposis’s sarcoma are discussed

Abstract
HHV-6 isolated are divide into two variants. Recently evidences supported a different distribution of variant A (frequent detected in patients HIV-infected or with lymphomas) vs variant B (associated to exanthema subitum). Here we report the higher frequency of HHV-6 variant A in Kaposi’s sarcoma biopsies. The occurrence of endemic infection with variant A in Africa and a possible interaction between HHV-6 and other infectious agent in the pathogenesis of Kasposis’s sarcoma are discussedFile | Dimensione | Formato | |
