In this paper, an RFID based application to track paper rolls from supplier trucks to the warehouse and from warehouse to the manufacturing facility is proposed. The work has been made in cooperation with the local producers of packages paper (located in the district ofLucca); a preliminary costs analysis and a first experimentation have proved that the main advantages are due to a reduction of paper losses and to the improvement of the warehouse management. By means of the combination of motion trackers on the trucks and a grid of sensors laid in the concrete floor, the warehouse can effectively track the location of specific rolls of paper with great precision. Future activities are intended to optimize the reading range of the tags inserted in the core of the paper rolls.
