Moving from the etymology of the name Pseudolus, that conveys the idea of ‘trick’ combining a Greek (pseud-) and a Latin (dolus) root, the paper offers an outline of the vocabulary of the intrigue in Plautus, showing at the same time how the related terms occur in lines and passages with remarkable stylistic and linguistic features, based first of all on word and sound plays for comic purposes.
