Gynecological system score for the evaluation of the genital tract in dairy cows. The purpose of the Authors in this paper has been to propose a new method ofevaluation of the dairy cow genital system. The evaluation is performed through a transrectal gynecolo¬gical and echographic examination and is called “Gynecologial Score System” (GSS). The new method takes in consideration the ovaries, the uterine horns, the uterine body, the cervix and the combination vulvo-vagina. For each of these structure we gave a score from O to 5 and the mean was considered the morfo-functional score of the whoie genitai apparatus. We conside¬red 3359 open cows of different age and randomiy taken from different groups depending on the reproductive status, the miik production and the food composition and intake. We divided the animai in two groups respectively of 2141 and 1218 For each group we considered the time from parturition, the BCS, the GSS the mean number of AI per pregnancy and the pregnancy rate. The results have shown that the first group the BCS was 2.9, the GSS 2.9 and the mean AI and pregnancy rate were respectiveiy 2.2 and 84.7. For the second group BCS was 2.3, GSS 2.1 and the mean AI. and pregnancy rate 3.2 and 70.44% respectiveiy. The results have clearly shown that GSS is a veiy important and useful method to evaiuate the genital system of the dairy cow and that there is a correiation between the GSS and reproductive efficiency. Furthermore GSS has the potential to become a tooi to plan all the reproductive activities of the farms.

Abstract

Gynecological system score for the evaluation of the genital tract in dairy cows. The purpose of the Authors in this paper has been to propose a new method ofevaluation of the dairy cow genital system. The evaluation is performed through a transrectal gynecolo¬gical and echographic examination and is called “Gynecologial Score System” (GSS). The new method takes in consideration the ovaries, the uterine horns, the uterine body, the cervix and the combination vulvo-vagina. We conside¬red 3359 open cows of different age and randomiy taken from different groups depending on the reproductive status, the miik production and the food composition and intake.
