The crystal structure of the Sr2Zn2Fe28O46 hexagonal ferrite has been refined from X-ray single crystal data. The crystallographic parameters are: a = 5.884(3) A ̊, c = 83.678(6) A ̊; density ρ{variant} = 5.17 g/cm3 and space group R3m with three formula units per cell. The Zn2+ ions were found in the tetrahedral sites of S blocks and in the octahedral sites of R blocks. Following this cation distribution the Bohr magneton value deducible from the collinear Gorter scheme is 56μB versus an experimental value of (53.7±1.4)μB. The main magnetic properties of Sr2Zn2Fe28O46 single crystals are: saturation magnetization 82.5 and 108 emu/g at room temperature (RT) and liquid nitrogen, respectively; anisotropy field is 12.3 kOe at RT; Curie temperature is 430°C.
