La gestione del glaucoma primario nel cane: studio retrospettivo / primary glaucoma treatment in the dog: retrospective study

Glaucoma is the elevation of the intraocular pressure (IOP) and is a frequent cause of sudden blindness in dog. The end stage of glaucoma consists of an irreversible loss of vision and surgical treatment is required. Primary glaucoma is known to occur in certain pure breed dogs and is thought to be inherited. Reported breeds with higher prevalence of spontaneous glucomas include: Basset Hound, Beagle, Boston Terrier, Chow Chow, Chinese Shar Pei, Cocker, Spaniel, Dalmatian, Fox Terrier, Great Dane, Poodle, Samoyed, Siberian Husky, Springer Spaniel and Welsh Terrier. The aim of this study was to identify the typology of the dogs with primary glaucoma, the answer of this pathology to the medical therapy, the surgical treatment and the long term evolution of the disease.
