A theoretical model for the analysis of beams subjected to shear, bending moment and axial force is proposed. A layered finite element beam has been developed and the displacement field of the beam cross section has been modelled using a polynomial function, characterized by a number of terms variable with the complexity of the considered problem. The mechanical nonlinearity of the material has been accounted through the PARC constitutive model for cracked reinforced concrete elements. The reliability and the efficiency of the proposed model is proved by comparisons with well-documented experimental tests reported in technical literature.
