Different automatic procedures to estimate induction machines parameters, known as self-commissioning, can be found in literature. They usually involve supplying a single phase or two series-connected phases. An ideal machine should present the same behavior at all terminals, while in an actual machine non-idealities alter the response to the signals. Some techniques to state machine condition during self-commission procedures based on the parameter values discrepancies or on the response to particular signals injected have been proposed. This paper investigates the effect of the different asymmetries on the usual self-commissioning procedures and the further possibilities given by the machine supply through the digitally controlled inverter. It is shown that, even at standstill, it is possible to detect and state the severity of some fault conditions of the machine. In particular a specific supply voltage signal is proposed that, through the machine response, outlines the machine rotor conditions.
