LA GESTIONE DEL DIAMETRO TRASVERSALE DELLA MANDIBOLA – IMPLICAZIONI ESTETICHE E OCCLUSALI

The treatment of dento-facial deformities must involve all the three dimensional problems taking into account not only the sagittal or vertical plane but also trasversal management of facial trasversal dimensions that, in Authors' opinion, has not yet been thoroughly studied. A particular attention has been given to bigonial diameter reduction, comparing midline mandibular steoctomy or osteotomy procedures with transversal mandibular excess have been treated at the Maxillo-Facial Surgery Department of Parma. A midline mandibular osteotomy was carried out in 19 patients, while the remaining 11 patients underwent a mandibular angle resection. A thorough analysis of indications and clinical results show that these techniques satisfy both functional and aesthetics aims.
