Hybrid steel truss - R/C beams join together advantages of precast as well as cast in situ structures. For their correct behaviour, particular attention must be paid in the execution of the welding between the steel truss and the bottom steel base, since this connection is stressed during all the building phases of the beam system. In this paper the role of the welding method has been analysed by performing a series of experimental tests where fillet or alternatively butt welds have been adopted. For these two types of weld, local tests on the single modulus of steel truss and steel base have been carried out, as well as global tests on full-scale hybrid beams where all the loading stages, from the steel components setting and concrete cast to the application of serviceability and ultimate limit state loads on the composite beam, have been appropriately reproduced.

Abstract
