In this work the structural behaviour of a thin-walled prestressed roof element named IMAGO has been analysed. This element is characterised by an open, V-shaped cross section and by the presence of steel ties which connect the top of the wings in order to bear the transversal flexural stresses. The influence of steel ties arrangement on the bearing capacity of the element has been investigated by performing a series of NLFE analyses, able to take into account the presence of both longitudinal and transversal flexural stresses. On the basis of the most common technical solutions, several case studies have been considered, where the steel tie spacing has been changed according to the span of the elements and the spacing between them. Numerical analyses on IMAGO element have been carried out by implementing PARC constitutive model into a commercial Finite Element Code (ABAQUS), so to account for mechanical and geometrical non-linearity. The performed investigations have confirmed that this element requires the presence of steel ties about every 3 m, as done in current production. This spacing can also be increased if an higher amount of transversal steel mesh is arranged.
