Fracture mechanics of AAC has been studied by performing flexural tests, similar to those commonly used for ordinary concrete elements. Several three point bending tests have been carried out on AAC beams and panels, in order to determine the statistical variability of tensile strength. In some of these tests the load was strain-control applied and the stress-crack width curve has been monitored. Crack growth has also been monitored by using ESPI technique. The main parameters of the cohesive law have been then calibrated through FE back analyses.
