ABSTRACT Small or moderate defects of the floor of the mouth should not be underestimate because of the functional limitations that an inadequate reconstruction can produce. The buccinator myo-mucosal island flap can be a suitable reconstructive option because of its reliability, the possibility to reconstruct the oral mucosa with similar tissue, the endo-oral harvesting avoiding external deformities and scars, the low morbidity on the donor site (it can be closed directly or with adjacent tissues like the buccal fat pad) and shorter hospitalization times. In this paper the Authors reports on their experience with this technique analyzing the surgical procedure, the indications, its advantages and disadvantages.

Abstract
ABSTRACT Small or moderate defects of the floor of the mouth should not be underestimate because of the functional limitations that an inadequate reconstruction can produce. The buccinator myo-mucosal island flap can be a suitable reconstructive option because of its reliability, the possibility to reconstruct the oral mucosa with similar tissue, the endo-oral harvesting avoiding external deformities and scars, the low morbidity on the donor site (it can be closed directly or with adjacent tissues like the buccal fat pad) and shorter hospitalization times. In this paper the Authors reports on their experience with this technique analyzing the surgical procedure, the indications, its advantages and disadvantages.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
