Liver abscesses are seldom observed during clinical examination but are frequently found in slaughtering with a prevalence that is only slightly lower than liver dystomatosis. Sixty-seven liver abscess from Charolais cattles (aged 18-22 month) from several different intensive breeding farms of Mantova province have been examined for verifying the association between abscessual lesions and bacteria. Microrganisms play a foundamental role in development of this kind of lesion and there have been isolated the following agents: Arcanobacterium pyogenes (33%), Aeromonas hydrophila (19%), Bacillus spp. and Gemella (Streptococcus) morbillorum (18%), which we found often in association from 67 livers examined.
