The unsteady flow and heat transfer in corrugated axisymmetric channel having an arc shaped profile is here investigated. Both a two and a three-dimensional model is considered by performing numerical simulations within the Femlab 3.0a© environment. The objective is to localize and to describe the transition from the steady flow to the unstable time periodic regime. The results enable to verify the inappropriateness of the two-dimensional approach in describing this phenomenon.

Abstract

The unsteady flow and heat transfer in corrugated axisymmetric channel having an arc shaped profile is here investigated. Both a two and a three-dimensional model is considered by performing numerical simulations within the Femlab 3.0a© environment. The objective is to localize and to describe the transition from the steady flow to the unstable time periodic regime. The results enable to verify the inappropriateness of the two-dimensional approach in describing this phenomenon.
