Daylight has an important influence on the comfort of building occupants and on the energy efficiency of buildings. Control daylighting improve diffuse natural illumination of interiors. Diffuse lighting decreases glare effects which disturb occupants and excessive energy use for cooling in order to reduce interior increased temperatures due to solar gains. The article presents methods of assessment of adequate levels of interiors natural illumination in relation to Estonian standard and rules of thumb for window and balconies/shading sizing.
