This contribution presents the project Domus Architecturæ Parmæ. A House for the School of Architecture, developed within the Binario 8 Workshop (Parma, 26-28 February 2025) on the occasion of the twenty-fifth anniversary of the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Parma. The project addresses the regeneration of the Binario 8 urban area in the San Leonardo district through a re-foundational retrofit proposal that transforms a disused and degraded railway compound into a university architecture citadel open to the city. The intervention is articulated across two distinct and complementary areas: the first encompasses the reuse of the Cinema Trento building as an auditorium and teaching spaces, the recovery of the former Banchini buildings for library, study, and research spaces, and the construction of a new building for lecture halls and exhibition spaces on Via Trento; the second involves the construction of a hybrid building in the Via Palermo area (WoPa) that integrates teaching laboratories and student residences. The project introduces a system of new urban connections based on a pedestrian ramp linking the lower level of the railway station to Via Trento, and a footbridge at track level connecting the two areas. The interstitial space between the former Banchini and Cinema Trento is cleared of its embankment and transformed into a large urban interior articulated by stepped terraces and elevated pathways at different levels. The new building on Via Trento, raised on fork-shaped structural elements, is configured as a gateway to the university courtyard and as a complex urban machine designed primarily in section, capable of restoring the image of the public building both on the street front and the railway front, with a large eave frame housing an open-air classroom-theater at the top overlooking the city.

Abstract
The new building on Via Trento, raised on fork-shaped structural elements, is configured as a gateway to the university courtyard and as a complex urban machine designed primarily in section, capable of restoring the image of the public building both on the street front and the railway front, with a large eave frame housing an open-air classroom-theater at the top overlooking the city.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
