Roger Planchon et Michel Vinaver : une amitié à l’épreuve du théâtre

From the creation of Aujourd’hui ou Les Coréens in 1956, the friendship between Michel Vinaver and Roger Planchon has been constant, strong and contradictory. The playwright has made many public statements in praise of his friend Roger Planchon, a director and a playwright in his own right, but there have been no fewer occasions for the two artists to have frictions. In 1990, Vinaver declared that creators such as Patrice Chéreau, Antoine Vitez and Jean-Pierre Vincent would have worked “based on the certainty that the director is the sovereign master of the theatrical work, the ultimate author of the show”. A genetic study of the initial collaboration between Planchon and Vinaver, right up to the production of Michel Vinaver’s play Par-dessus bord, provides an opportunity to examine the relationship between these two artists in terms of their shared authorial responsibility.
