The chapter providse a quick overview on the history or the organic method and of the reasons for its “codification”. It then focuses on the approach that the EU Legislator had over years, from the first proposals on organic production to the recent Regulation (EU) 2018/848, putting an emphasis on the objectives and principles which inspire EU law on organics and on their answering to the consumers’ demand for natural products. The chapter then considers the requirements that business operators have to comply with for organic products and the powers that EU law confers on public authorities and, indirectly, on private bodies.
