The canon law scholarship has always been considered as one of the main factors determining the cultural premises of the early modern phenomenon of witch-hunting. The aim of this paper is to verify such assumption, by identifying the different magic practices that were prohibited in the canon law sources and reconstructing the legal thought that was developed by ius commune scholars on these matters in the different phases of the legal history of the Church in the Middle Ages.

Abstract
