This chapter analyzes how members of popular classes perceive political institutions, parties and power structures in contemporary Italy. Drawing on qualitative interviews conducted in urban peripheral neighborhoods, it explores distrust toward political elites, perceptions of economic power as dominant over politics, and ambivalent attitudes toward political participation and representation.
