This book provides one of the first sociological analyses of animal advocacy movements in Italy. Combining theoretical perspectives from social movement studies and human–animal studies with original empirical research, it examines the organizational structures, political strategies and repertoires of action adopted by Italian animal advocates. The study conceptualizes animal advocacy as a heterogeneous “archipelago” of actors ranging from care-oriented associations to radical antispeciesist groups. Through surveys and interviews with activists, the book explores how animal movements frame their claims, interact with institutions and position themselves within broader political conflicts surrounding capitalism, environmentalism and lifestyle activism.

Abstract
This book provides one of the first sociological analyses of animal advocacy movements in Italy. Combining theoretical perspectives from social movement studies and human–animal studies with original empirical research, it examines the organizational structures, political strategies and repertoires of action adopted by Italian animal advocates. The study conceptualizes animal advocacy as a heterogeneous “archipelago” of actors ranging from care-oriented associations to radical antispeciesist groups. Through surveys and interviews with activists, the book explores how animal movements frame their claims, interact with institutions and position themselves within broader political conflicts surrounding capitalism, environmentalism and lifestyle activism.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
