This article aims at investigating the success of Russian tales in Italy from 1900 until nowadays, and analysing the different typologies of translation (translation, adaptation, re-writing), as well astheir graphic outlook. Our purpose is to demonstrate that the tale is the genre that has significantly marked the reception of Russian children’s literature in Italy, and became the key to understand a precise image of childhood that has been built through the translations. Thus, the Italian representation of the Russian childhood is populated by the main characters of the most famous tales, such as Baba Yaga, the Firebird, Vasilisa the Wise, who were gathered or invented by the greatest authors and folklorists: Krylov, Afanasyev, as well as Pushkin and Tolstoy.

Abstract
