Abstract
Starting with the experiments by Smeaton (1759) on water wheels, fluid mechanics has favoured the applications of physical modelling. The great variety of problems, otherwise unsolvable, resulted in great development in the techniques of hydraulic physical modelling, both for internal and external flows. The history of models in hydraulic engineering is widely documented in the classic book by Rouse and Ince (1963), and the numerous applications are detailed in the monographs by Yalin (1971) and byIvicsics (1980), Novak and Čábelka (1981), Hughes (1993), all exclusively devoted to hydraulic engineering problems.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
