Istros of Kallatis (1286)

This article examines the elusive figure of Istros of Kallatis, known solely through a notice in Stephanus of Byzantium describing him as the author of a "good book" On Tragedy. It reviews the evidence concerning his identity and distinguishes him from the better-known Istros the Callimachean, reassessing earlier attempts to attribute additional works to him. The study concludes that the available evidence allows only limited conclusions but confirms the existence of another scholar contributing to the ancient study of Greek tragedy.
