Amarantos of Alexandreia (1279)

This article reassesses the surviving evidence for Amarantos of Alexandreia, whose works include the treatise On the Stage and a commentary on Theocritus. By examining the extant fragments and testimonia, it reconstructs the range of his scholarly interests, from theatrical history and performers to philological exegesis and lexicography. The study also discusses the attribution of additional medical fragments and places Amarantos within the learned milieu of the Imperial period, highlighting the diversity of his intellectual production.
