Abstract

American education has built its identity, in the Founders' era and well inside the 19th century, in an anti-European key, with a marked anti-Catholic note. In this article we try to trace the main features of anti-European themes in American education, outlining their paradoxical nature in the liberal context and their contribution to the development of the Nativist political movement.
