In 1994, Robert Jouanny defined Francophone Space as "a moving and elusive space, submitted to laws and to conditions, typical of its occupants, which are in endless evolution. This space is the result of the convergence between historical and geographical data and individual and collective motivations." This diversity and at the same time this fondamental similarity are well represented - that's what we believe - in the present volume that gathers the Acts of the International Scientific Congress: "Le français, instrument de transmission de la mémoire culturelle dans les réalités francophones", which took place at the Université de la Vallée d'Aoste on the 23th and 24th October 2009.
