his article treats line 21 of Catullus’ XLIV poem. The text is discussed afresh, despite the general agreement among editors after Lachmann’s sec- ond edition. This paper’s aim is to restore legit instead of Lachmann’s conjecture legi, read it as perfectum together with a change in the word order (legit librum), and shed some light on the lusus of Catullus XLIV.
