This article presents some experiments in students from 12 to 16 years old of non-standard problems and especially those not cataloged in textbooks with the label "solvable with equation or system". A posteriori analysis of these problems can help to identify when the concept of equation or system begins to take shape in students' mind and to show if and how it evolves from one scholastic level to the next one.
