Old and New Greek Papyri from Tebtunis in the Bancroft Library of Berkeley: Work in Progress

Abstract: This paper is concerned with the publication of Greek Papyri from Tebtunis in the Bancroft Library of Berkeley. On the one hand, recent work on the sub-literary medical texts from Tebtunis to be included in Greek Medical Papyri II has produced a full edition of P.Tebt. 678 (described by Grenfell & Hunt), and of new fragments belonging to P.Tebt. 677 (+ PSI inv. 3054 et al.). On the other hand, new documents of the Ptolemaic and Roman period are being studied by a group of students of the University of Parma. This paper offers some glimpses from the ongoing work and focuses on some benefits which have emerged in work to date. Attention will be drawn to the remarkable P.Tebt. 793 — a Ptolemaic roll which contains extracts of official correspondence concerning land surveys according to crops.
