In this paper I discuss the relation between Husserl and Franz Brentano, as well as that to other members of the Brentano school, in the light of his critique of psychologism. In particular, I trace how Husserl’s development in the decade between "Philosophy of Arithmetic" and "Logical Investigations" brings not only a change in Husserl’s views on the foundations of logic, but also a strike of emancipation from Brentano’s influence. This was not an easy step for Husserl; but his strike of emancipation from Brentano brings him to the discovery of ideal objects, and thus the necessary presupposition which allows him develop what he is most famous for: his phenomenological method.

Abstract
In this paper I discuss the relation between Husserl and Franz Brentano, as well as that to other members of the Brentano school, in the light of his critique of psychologism. In particular, I trace how Husserl’s development in the decade between "Philosophy of Arithmetic" and "Logical Investigations" brings not only a change in Husserl’s views on the foundations of logic, but also a strike of emancipation from Brentano’s influence. This was not an easy step for Husserl; but his strike of emancipation from Brentano brings him to the discovery of ideal objects, and thus the necessary presupposition which allows him develop what he is most famous for: his phenomenological method.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
