This research work aims to provide computational remarks for the strength degradation analysis of pre-existing random damages. By means of a novel fatigue-resistance design algorithm, the mixed mode I/II damages are investigated taking into account the effects of stress intensities and mean stresses. Analytical and numerical evaluations in terms of the residual life and crack path are successfully validated against relevant experiments under cyclic loading with constant amplitude and overload.

Abstract

This research work aims to provide computational remarks for the strength degradation analysis of pre-existing random damages. By means of a novel fatigue-resistance design algorithm, the mixed mode I/II damages are investigated taking into account the effects of stress intensities and mean stresses. Analytical and numerical evaluations in terms of the residual life and crack path are successfully validated against relevant experiments under cyclic loading with constant amplitude and overload.
