The optical properties of Tm3+ doped KLa(MoO4)2 single crystals have been measured at various temperatures between 10 and 298 K. All the observed bands are inhomogeneously broadened as an effect of the random distribution of the K+ and La3+ (Tm3+) ions in the scheelite crystal lattice. The intensities of the absorption transitions have been analyzed by means of the Judd-Ofelt theory. The spontaneous transition probability, the branching ratios and the radiative lifetimes have been determined for the most important emitting states using the calculated intensity parameters. They are in good agreement with the experimental results. A structural analysis of the crystal lattice is also reported. © 1997 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
