Fascist “Roman spirit” between centre and periphery. In relation to the ways in which the fascist propaganda acted in the different contexts of the regime (centre and peripheries), this essay examines how the “thick surface of Roman Spirit”, that thoroughly characterized the fascist era, was fulfilled in a “local” area in 1938, during the Augustan Bi-millenary celebrations. On the one hand, the local interpre- tation of Fascist “Roman spirit” creates peculiar transformations of the official rhetoric proposed by the regime; on the other hand, it acts as an instrument to wide- spread and have people imbued with its themes and its basis concepts.

In relazione ai modi in cui la propaganda fascista ha agito a livello di centro e di periferia, questo articolo analizza come la “spessa patina di romanità”, che caratterizzò in profondità l’epoca fascista, prese forma, nel 1938, in un contesto ‘locale, in occasione delle celebrazioni del bimillenario augusteo. Da un lato, la rielaborazione locale della romanità fascista mostra forme di “disallineamento” rispetto a quanto proposto dalla propaganda del regime; al tempo stesso, essa diviene l’occasione per un più pervasivo coinvolgimento degli italiani attorno ai temi e alle parole d’ordine del ventennio.
