Given the importance of improving second language students’ fluency in speaking, an e-tandem project was carried out by the Language Centre of the Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz (Germany) and the Department of Foreign Languages and Literature of the Università degli Studi di Parma (Italy). The online meeting of students and teachers from Mainz and Parma was made possible by the web conferencing software Adobe Connect, providing Italian learners of German and German learners of Italian with an authentic language and intercultural experience. These virtual classes were structured differently in the two semesters, but always in such a manner as to train various kinds of oral exchanges, from the almost monological, highly planned presentation to the whole group, to one-to-one interactions. The paper will analyze the strengths and weaknesses of every format, as well as the way in which the communication mode is affected, and cooperative learning is fostered, by the use of computer-mediated technology.

Abstract
The paper will analyze the strengths and weaknesses of every format, as well as the way in which the communication mode is affected, and cooperative learning is fostered, by the use of computer-mediated technology.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
