The basic thesis of this brief contribution is that within an exhibition space, fruition is a real process, slow and non-linear, which involves a complex interactiverelationship between different "agents": first of all the subject and the object of fruition, to which we must add: the other exhibits, the users, the space adapted and set up for the exhibition in which the experience takes place. In this sense it can be extremely useful to include the complex phenomenon of exposure within the performative turn that has characterizedart and culture since the 1960s; and to recall some interpretative paradigms elaborated in the aesthetic field, in particular by Erika Fischer-Lichte in her Ästhetik des Performativen, to better understand the phenomenon of exposures and the type of experience that they solicit (Fischer-Lichte 2004). As will be seen, the heuristic capacity of these paradigms will emerge also through the comparison between the German phenomenological aesthetics, to which the author makes direct reference, and the French one, in particular that of Maurice Merleau-Ponty, of Paul Ricoeur, of Henri Maldiney.

Abstract

The different design and executive phases of an exhibition find the culminating moment in the spectator’sexperience, in which the work that we could define in a "productive" sense whichis behind an exhibition is sensitively perceived and elaborated intellectually by the public. But what does the use of an exhibition consist of? What kind of relationship is created between the subject of experience and the object displayed in the exhibition space?
