Abstract

Reconsideration of the evidence related to the probouloi Hagnon and Sophocles shows that their role during the dramatic events culminating in the seizure of power by the Four Hundred at Athens in 411 BC, is compatible not with Thucydides’ version, but with that of the Aristotelian Constitution of the Athenians.
