The mechanism of action of hexaprazol, a new antiulcer drug, has not yet been fully determined. The drug has an anticholinergic effect and a cytoprotective action. Thirteen healthy control subjects were studied in order to evaluate any effect of acute hexaprazol injection on some gastrointestinal hormones and pepsinogen group I. The results of the present paper showed that hexaprazol did not modify gastrin, secretin, gastric inhibitory polypeptide, vasoactive intestinal polypeptide, somatostatin, and pepsinogen group I, while it increased pancreatic polypeptide concentration.
