This paper proposes a new model for describing the effect of people on the dynamic behaviour of slender structures. The influence of people is described by using the so-called ground reaction forces. These are split into two types: passive ground reaction forces and active ground reaction forces. This enables to model the influence of both passive and active people occupying the structure. The experimental tests carried out on two different test-case structures allowed to validate the proposed approach, proving its reliability as well as its accuracy.

Abstract

This paper proposes a new model for describing the effect of people on the dynamic behaviour of slender structures. The influence of people is described by using the so-called ground reaction forces. These are split into two types: passive ground reaction forces and active ground reaction forces. This enables to model the influence of both passive and active people occupying the structure. The experimental tests carried out on two different test-case structures allowed to validate the proposed approach, proving its reliability as well as its accuracy.
