Quete identitaire et racines africaines dans "Les Derniers rois mages" de Maryse Condé

Last descendant of an African noble dynasty, Spéro, the hero of M. Condé's "Les Derniers rois mages", is torn between the irrevocable desire to discover the truth about his own origin and the need to forget the bonds which bind his family to Africain history. In the narrative tissue of this novel, Maryse Condé well suggests the complexity of the search accomplished by this character and, before him, by other members of the Jules-Juliette family, in regard to a historical truth wich, not only reveals itself extremely sorrowful, but also composite and opaque, becoming elusive.
