Underground utility detection and mapping is a relevant issue to the social community as regard to management, cost-effectiveness and quality of the provided services. The rapid urban development, started in the early sixties, and the progressive adjustment of the adduction networks caused a rapid and chaotic growth of the buried infrastructures. The need of a reliable cartography of the shallow subsurface became a real issue only in the last years. The modern Geographic Information System represents an excellent tool to handle the variety of data related to the utility networks. Unfortunately the spatial position of the buried entities is most of the times only approximately known while a higher accuracy should be required.
