Abstract

Two general and, in a way, preliminary problems concerning Aristotle’s "Categories" are the extension and the nature of the categorial table. In this contribution I discuss some difficulties that the ontological interpretation of the "Categories" encountered in the late Middle Ages. I do that by analizying Walter Burley's account of the categories and the dispute between the Dominicans Hervaeus Natalis and Durand of St.-Pourçain about the extension of the categorial table to the mental.
