The present book has been devised as a general and practical introduction to Translation Studies and the practice of translation. With this intent, the volume begins by introducing some fundamental notions such as ‘context’ and ‘co-text’, ‘function’ and ‘register’, which have influenced research work in the field of translation studies and the practice of translation. However, rather than being a compendium of theoretical jargon, this volume aims at providing readers not only with some background in various theories but also some practical pieces of advice that could become useful when translating. Thus, after each chapter, where specific translation problems are addressed, the book offers a series of texts in English, encouraging readers to apply the abstract notions introduced beforehand to the specific translation issues that might arise when working on a translation from English into Italian.
