The present study used the Kestrel (_Falco tinnunculus_) to investigate the implications of feeding for long periods in captivity on a particular type of food and the subsequent ability to prey on different but more natural prey. The 24 birds studied were split into two groups according to the duration of their captivity: (A) less than 3 months, or (B) more than 4 months. Although in captivity, they were all wild birds, recovering from injuries caused by illegal hunters. They were group housed and fed twice a day with chicken carcasses.
