A.C. initial magnetic susceptibility measurements on the (Er0.6Ho0.4)2Fe14B intermetallic compound show two anomalies at Tsr1 = 164 ± 2 K and Tsr2 = 43.4 ± 0.5 K that have been associated with spin reorientation transition processes. Tsr1 corresponds with a temperature in which the easy magnetization direction begins to tilt away from the c-axis and giving rise to a conical magnetic structure. Tsr2 is the temperature at which high order CEF terms begin to be important and a conel-cone2 SRT takes place, giving rise to a new cone2 phase in which the easy magnetization direction tends towards the c-axis. The orientation of the easy magnetization direction has been determined by means of the measurements of the parallel and perpendicular components of the magnetization to the applied magnetic field and also by polar plots of the magnetization in the range 3.8–300 K.

Abstract

A.C. initial magnetic susceptibility measurements on the (Er0.6Ho0.4)2Fe14B intermetallic compound show two anomalies at Tsr1 = 164 ± 2 K and Tsr2 = 43.4 ± 0.5 K that have been associated with spin reorientation transition processes.
