Abstract:The colour rendering index is a debated quantity of these past years and many indices with different meanings have been proposed and discussed. Today this concern is still open. This work proposes two indices that together should represent the quality of the colour rendering of a light source. One index is the area of the perceived colour gamut within the MacAdam limit with uniform perceived scales and constant lightness under the considered light source. The second index regards the discrimination of the object hues and is the reciprocal of the greatest hue-angle difference measured on the MacAdam limit at constant lightness between contiguous reflectances with a reflectance step at wavelengths 1nm distant.
